For service of the Denso
A/C Clutch, first disconnect the negative
Battery Cable, remove the
Drive Belt and lift the vehicle to allow access. Take out the front skid plate and remove the wire from the connecter between the engine wire harness and compressor clutch field coil on the top of the A/C compressor. Remove the oil filter mounting bracket with the connector and wire lead, then use a band type oil filter wrench or strap wrench to turn the clutch plate without moving the shaft bolt. Make sure not to try to separate the clutch plate from the pulley and remove all clutch shim(s) from the area. Carefully hit the plate attached to the end of the clutch shaft with a plastic mallet to break the connection from the appliance's shaft and then take out the clutch plate and shim. Remove the assembly securing the pulley and bearing to the front of the A/C compressor by using snap ring pliers and then remove the snap ring holding the compressor clutch field coil. To set up, put the dowel pin through the hole in the compressor clutch field coil and into the compressor. Next, check that the wire lead is not being pinched. Replace the snap ring with a new one to properly secure the field coil in its correct place. The next step is to fit the pulley and bearing assembly, tap it gently where needed and hold it with a new snap ring. Should you choose to use the original clutch plate and pulley, add the original shim(s); or if installing new ones, use two stock steel shims that are 2.54 mm, thick. Put the clutch plate onto the A/C compressor and tighten the bolt holding the compressor to 19 N.m. After tightening, move to different places to measure the air gap and make sure it is between 0.35 - 0.60 mm. If it is not right, change the shims until the gap agrees with the instruction, keep in mind to guide the compressor clutch field coil wire lead properly. After that, link the compressor clutch field coil to the connector, connect the engine wire harness, set the front skid plate in place, lower the car, slip on the accessory drive belt and link the negative battery cable to the cable post.
