The Starter motor that cranks the engine when the vehicle is active is called a Jeep Liberty Starter. Inside the Jeep electrical system, the Starter housing consists of an armature that rotates. This rotating armature is surrounded by field coils or permanent magnets. The end of the shaft contains brushes and a commutator. The end of the shaft also contains a drive assembly that engages the flywheel ring gear only during starting. The Liberty engines incorporate an external solenoid connected through heavy battery wire and a circuit under ignition control, consisting of a relay and safety switch that disables it from functioning when the engine is in gear. When the key is turned to the START position, the solenoid energizes the Starter motor and moves the drive gear into the ring gear. Once the engine fires, an overrunning clutch allows the drive to freewheel to avoid damage. To reduce voltage drop, heavy gauge internal conductors are applied due to high torque delivery. A gear reduction type features the installation of a reduction gear between the armature and drive for higher torque. The integrated Starter in Jeep Liberty is designed to rotate the engine for every model of Jeep Liberty, ensuring the engine works properly.

Jeep Liberty Starter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Starter Motor from a 3.7L Engine on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
Before you remove the starter motor, be sure to cut off and isolate the negative Battery Cable. Following this, lift the vehicle onto its usual support points. When you have a Four Wheel Drive, go ahead and take out the front propeller shaft. After that, remove the two bolts holding the heat shield in place and take out the starter heat shield. After pulling the solenoid nut off the stud, detach the electrical connector from the solenoid terminal and pull out the battery cable from the mounting stud. With your two starter mounting bolts off, reserve the starter carefully and rotate it away from the transmission to free it.
  • Q: How to Install a Starter Motor for a 3.7L Engine on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
Place the front of the starter motor towards the back of your car, with the solenoid turned downward in front of it. After that, pass the starter along the body of the vehicle between the Exhaust Pipe and transmission bellhousing, place it carefully into the bellhousing and secure it with two bolts, tightening each to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) Screw the Battery Cable and nut onto the stud on the starter solenoid and fasten it with 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque and join the solenoid wire connector to its terminal. Following that, place the starter heat shield and add the nut at the front of the starter and then secure two starter heat shield bolts at the side of the device. Put on the front propeller shaft next, then attach the left exhaust downpipe to the crossover pipe using two flange bolts. After that, set the vehicle back on its wheels and attach the negative battery cable.
