Lift the liftgate and hold it up, then get rid of the panel above the opening to service or repair the trunk or liftgate hinge. Make a mark in the middle of each hinge with a grease pencil or an alternative, just before you take out the screws and remove the hinge. First apply a proper body sealer to the places where the hinge will meet the roof panel and the liftgate. Then attach the hinge to both panels. Ensure that the hinge screws in the roof panel are tightened to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.) Erase the installation and then at the liftgate hinges as well. Install the upper trim for the liftgate again, look at how the gate opens and closes and spot check the hinge to body screws for leaks.
