2000 Dodge Dakota Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before starting, create a low fuel pressure by removing the fuel tank filler tube cap and applying the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure. Detach the negative lead on the battery and take out the air tube inside the throttle body, as some cars also require the air cleaner ducts be removed. Unplug the electrical leads from every injector and make sure to identify them with tags to know which cylinder they control. Both the fuel supply line latch clip and fuel line need to be disconnected at the fuel rail, as well as the throttle cable, speed control cable and automatic transmission cable if present. First, take out the cable routing bracket on the intake manifold, remove the nut on the fuel rail stud that holds the pigtail harness and then pull out the clamp and harness. Clean all the dirt and debris from the fuel injectors at the intake manifold, then remove their mounting nuts and shake the fuel rail so it comes off the intake manifold. It's best to clean the injector bores at the intake manifold before installation and touch a small amount of clean engine oil to the injector O-rings to settle them as you thread them in place. Place the tips of all the injectors into each of the injector bores and fit them into the manifold. Apply 11 ± 3 Nm (100 ± 25 in. lbs.) to each of the fuel rail mounting bolts; after that, place back the crankshaft position sensor pigtail wire harness clamp and attach the nut that secures the wire harness to the fuel rail mounting stud. First, attach the tagged injector harness to the proper injectors and then attach the end of the fuel line to the fuel rail, using the iconic latch clip. Should the bike have a protective cap, place it onto the pressure test port fitting during installation, then reinstall the throttle cable and the other cables you removed at the throttle body. Install the air tube at the throttle body's highest point, put the fuel tank lid back on, attach the negative battery cable, fire up the engine and inspect for fuel leaks.
