- Q: How to Remove and Install Car Speakers in the Front and Rear Doors on 2000 Dodge Durango?A: Before removing the upper door speaker, unhook and isolate the negative battery cable and after that, remove the trim from the front door. Remove the door wire harness connector from the front door speaker wire harness connector, take out the two screws holding the speaker in place on the panel and simply pull out the speaker. Similar to the top speaker position, first cut off the negative battery wire and remove the front door trim. Take out the three screws holding the speaker to the interior front door, pull the speaker out so you can reach the wire harness connector, then remove the wire harness plug from the speaker connector receptacle and finally take the speaker away. To change the rear door speaker, first remove the clip holding the battery negative cable, detach and isolate the battery negative cable, remove the trim panel, remove the three screws attaching the speaker to the rear door inner panel, pull the speaker out, disconnect the wire harness from the rear door and remove the speaker. Locate the front door upper speaker to the back of the trim panel, install and tighten the two screws to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.), attach the door's speaker harness to the speaker, install the trim panel and attach the cable connected to the negative pole of the battery. On the lower speaker for the front door, look for any corrosion on the terminals and address it as needed, lighten the cavities in the door wire harness connector with a little Lithium Extreme Pressure - Number 2 Grade grease, fit the speaker to the door inner panel, attach the wire harness connector, insert the speaker into the hole and secure the three screws by hand to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.), then put the trim panel on and link the battery's negative terminal. For the door wire harness connector, clean or replace any corroded terminals, put a small amount of Lithium Extreme Pressure - Number 2 Grade grease into the cavities, connect the speaker, reconnect the wire harness, connect the speaker to the rear of the door panel and use the three screws to tighten the assembly to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.).
