2000 Dodge Neon Brake Proportioning Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Proportioning Valve on 2000 Dodge Neon?
A: When servicing or repairing the brake proportioning/combo valve, preapply the brake pedal holding tool to move the pedal past the first inch and stop fluid movement from the master cylinder to the brake hydraulic system. After that, remove the brake tube from the proportioning valve you want to take out and unscrew the valve from the master cylinder. The sliding O-ring on the proportioning valve should be greased and the valve is then installed in the master cylinder hole with a torque of 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After connecting the brake tube to the proportioning valve, tighten the tube nut to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). Remove the brake pedal holder, empty the brake line and take the car on a road test to check if the brakes are operational.
