2000 Dodge Neon Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder with ABS on 2000 Dodge Neon?
A: To repair and service the brake master cylinder with ABS, pump the brakes 4-5 times with the engine shut off, to pump the vacuum out of the power brakes. Remove the negative cable from the battery and put it aside. Then, take out the positive cable, lift the battery from its mount and secure it at the back with the nut. After that, separate the wiring harness connector on the brake fluid level switch and release both brake tubes connected to the master cylinder, inserting plugs in their outlets. Wipe the spot where the master cylinder is attached to the power brake booster with a proper brake cleaner. Take out both nuts that hold the master cylinder to the booster, then pull it out straight. Before the master cylinder is installed, bleed it and clean the face of the power brake booster so there are no cleaner or particles left inside. Put the master cylinder onto the power brake vacuum booster studs and push the push rods aligned to contact the bracket of the brake booster. Secure the two nuts to a torque of 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.), then join the master cylinder to the brake tubes and tighten them to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). Match up the wires again on the master cylinder reservoir fluid level switch, insert and secure your battery and sketch out a positive and negative line. Fill the master cylinder so that there is no air in it and test the base and antilock brake systems on the road to confirm they are working properly.
