2000 Jeep Wrangler A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Accumulator on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Start by turning off the negative cable of the battery and removing the refrigerant from the refrigerant system before working on the accumulator HVAC. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the low pressure cycling clutch switch, then pull the plastic clip that holds the liquid line to the accumulator near the dash. Relax the screw holding the accumulator retaining band to the support bracket on the dash panel, then break the suction line from the accumulator's refrigerant line fitting, covering the open fittings with plugs or tape. Following that, pull out the accumulator inlet tube's refrigerant connection from the evaporator outlet tube and insert plugs in the opened fittings. Move the accumulator and retaining band forward until the screw doesn't touch the slotted hole in the bracket and then remove the accumulator. Slide the screw in the band into the support bracket hole on the dash panel, then take off the tape or contraptions from the refrigerant lines on the heat exchangers and attach the accumulator inlet tube link to the lines on the heat exchanger outlet. Set the accumulator retaining band screw to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.) and take away the tape or plugs from the couplers on the refrigerant lines of the suction line and the accumulator outlet tube. Then join the refrigerant line on the suction line with the accumulator outlet tube coupler. Put the plastic clip on the plastic line tube at the accumulator outlet on the dash panel, connect the wire harness to the cycling clutch switch and attach the negative battery cable. When you're done, pump the refrigerant into the system and put 4 fluid ounces of recommended refrigerant oil into the accumulator if it was replaced.
