2001 Jeep Wrangler A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Accumulator in a Refrigerant System on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Disconnect and separate the battery's negative cable first and only then proceed to save the refrigerant in the refrigerant system. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the low pressure cycling clutch switch, then release the plastic clip that holds the liquid line to the accumulator outlet tube next to the dash panel. Loose the secured screw attaching the retaining band on the support bracket and remove the suction line from the accumulator's refrigerant line fitting. Use plugs or tape to cover every opened refrigeration line afterward. After that, undo the refrigerant line fitting from the evaporator outlet tube and put in new plugs or tape all opened fittings. Go ahead and pull the whole assembly forward until the screw in the band stands clear of the slotted hole on the bracket, then take out the accumulator from the vehicle. During installation, push the retaining band screw through the slot in the dash panel's support bracket and tighten, remove any plugs or tape from the accumulator inlet tube and evaporator outlet tube refrigerant line fittings and link the two with the coupler. Secure the accumulator retaining band screw to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.), after which remove the tapes or stoppers from the refrigerant fittings on the suction line and the accumulator outlet tube and properly attach the suction line to the coupler on the refrigerant line of the accumulator outlet tube. Hold the plastic clip onto the place where the liquid line and accumulator outlet tube meet on top of the dash panel, insert the wire harness connector into the low pressure cycling clutch switch and reattach the negative cable to the battery. When finished, remove the powertrain and charge the refrigerant system, installing 120 milliliters (4 fluid ounces) of compliant refrigerant oil if you use an accumulator, selecting only the oil recommended by the vehicle's compressor manufacturer.
