2000 Jeep Wrangler Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Service and repair the brake master cylinder by first freeing the evaporative canister. Take the brake lines off the brake master cylinder and the combination valve and pull out the bracket mounting nuts of the valve along with the valve. After that, detach the brake master cylinder mounting nuts and get rid of the brake master cylinder and then pull off the cylinder cover to release the fluid. When you change the brake master cylinder, make sure to bleed it before mounting it. Drop off the protective sleeve from the main piston on the new brake master cylinder and see how the seal at the back of the cylinder body looks. If the seal has shifted, move it back and if it is cut or torn, replace it. Put the brake master cylinder over the brake booster studs and tighten the mounting nuts up to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.), replacing the original nuts only with factory replacements. After that, insert the combination valve onto the studs of the brake booster and stick the nuts onto it until they reach a torque of 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Install the brake master cylinder and combination valve brake lines by hand first, as this prevents cross-threading and then use 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.) of torque on each side. Afterwards, put back the evaporative canister and purge the base brake system.
