2001 Jeep Wrangler Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The evaporative canister should be removed before you start service and repair on the brake master cylinder. Disconnect the brake lines from the brake master cylinder and combination valve and afterwards remove the nuts and combination valve. Afterward, remove the mounting bolts securing the brake master cylinder and take out the cylinder. When that is finished, remove the cover to drain the fluid. Before installing a new brake master cylinder, bleed it first. Take the plastic cover away from the head part of the primary piston shank and inspect the rear seal of the main cylinder. If it is displaced, fix it and if cut, replace it. Fix the brake master cylinder onto the brake booster studs, using original nuts and tightening them to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the combination valve onto the brake booster studs and tighten its nuts to 20 Nm which is the same as 15 ft. lbs. Tighten the brake connections to the brake master cylinder and combination valve by hand to make sure they do not cross-thread, after which use a torque wrench to fasten the brake master cylinder brake lines at 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.) and the combination valve brake lines at 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). Afterward, put the evaporative canister back in and bleed the brake system at the bottom.
