2000 Jeep Wrangler Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Exhaust Manifold on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Prior to working on the exhaust manifold, disconnect the negative cable from your battery and raise the vehicle. Separate the exhaust pipe from the engine exhaust manifold, lower the car and next remove the intake manifold by taking out fasteners 2 through 5. After that, remove fasteners 1, 6 and 7 to disconnect the engine exhaust manifold. Clean all the intake and exhaust manifold areas and the mating surfaces on the cylinder head, so nothing enters into the intake or the cylinder head ports. After placing the new intake manifold gasket on the dowels, assemble the engine exhaust manifold in the center of the end studs and spacer. Tighten bolt No. 1 to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.); mount the intake manifold on the cylinder-head dowels and fasten bolts 2 through 5 to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) torque. Put the exhaust manifold spacers on top of the mounting studs and torque nuts 6 and 7 to 14 Nm (126 inch lbs.); then proceed with the marks. After putting the intake components back in, reposition the car above ramps and insert the exhaust pipe into the engine exhaust manifold. Attach the pipe, holding bolts at 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) torque. Lower the car onto the ground, reattach the negative battery cable and start up the car to look for leaks.
