2001 Jeep Wrangler Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: First, remove the negative battery cable and drain the liquid in the cooling system. Lift the car and take out the exhaust pipe from the engine exhaust manifold, but make sure to lower it again after. Loosen and remove fasteners 2 through 5 on the intake manifold and then remove fasteners 1, 6 and 7 to take apart the engine exhaust manifold. Wipe the mating surfaces on the cylinder head and manifold using solvent and then use compressed air to clear any dust. Look for cracks in the manifold and use a straight edge to measure the flatness of its surfaces. They should be less than 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) apart overall. Before installation, clean the intake and exhaust, along with all mating surfaces. Make sure no dirt gets into the intake or cylinder head. Put a gasket over the dowels on the cylinder head and connect the engine exhaust manifold assembly in the central area above the end studs and spacer. Secure bolt No.1 to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), then put the intake manifold over the cylinder dowels and tighten bolts 2 through 5 to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) of torque. Put the new engine exhaust manifold spacers on the cylinder head over the mounting studs, then tighten nuts 6 and 7 to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Attach the intake manifold in its place, raise the vehicle and attach the exhaust pipe to the engine exhaust manifold, fastening with bolts to roughly 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) torque. Lower the device, fill the cooling system, hook up the negative battery line and turn on the engine to see if you're losing liquid.
