2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Blower Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Blower Motor in Heater-Only and Heater-A/C Systems on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: It's possible to replace the blower wheel without removing the blower from the bottom of the unit or pulling out the whole housing; since the blower is balanced with the wheel, both must be changed when the wheel is changed. Before taking out the right silencer pad in a heater-only install, separate the battery negative cable, remove the two push-pin fasteners and pull the pad to the back. Then, separate the wire harness connector from the pigtail wiring of the blower motor and slide the tab on the blower motor mounting flange away from the dash panel. Use the locking tab down and turn the blower motor counterclockwise by about 1/8 turn before releasing it straight down from its position in the heater unit housing. Heater-A/C configurations also start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and taking out the right silencer hanger. With the instrument panel wire harness connector removed from the blower motor pigtail wiring connector, take out the four screws holding the motor to the heater-A/C housing and take the motor-and-wheel assembly out of the housing. When only the heater is installed, fix the blower motor and its wheel into the housing for the heater, turn it about 1/8 turn clockwise so the locking tab clicks into place, attach the wiring from the instrument panel, push the tabs from the right silencer pad into the slots in the dash panel silencer pad, install the push pins shown and attach the negative battery cable. Position the blower motor and wheel inside the heater module, then tighten the four screws under the unit to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.), reconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector, insert the right silencer pad tabs into the proper slots on the dash silencer pad, attach the push-pin fasteners and restart the battery ground cable.
