2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Wiper Motor on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before changing out the rear wiper motor, open the hood and remove the battery's negative terminal cable. First, remove the cover on the rear wiper arm nut and undo the retaining nut. After that, connect a battery terminal puller to disconnect the wiper arm from the pivot. After that, take off the liftgate trim panel and remove the connector underneath it. Loosen the three bolts that keep the rear wiper motor attached and then take it out of the vehicle, making sure nothing breaks the grommet or cracks the window. Before fitting the new motor, activate the wipers to check the wiper module is set to PARK and put the wiper tip at the park line on the windshield. Changing out the well-nuts is an important part of every oil change. Mount the new wiper motor using the three bolts, make sure to tighten each to 1.2 Nm (10 in. lbs.), then attach the harness and place the liftgate trim panel back. Place the wiper arm in the fully forward/centered direction, fix it with the retaining nut tightened to 18-20 Nm (160-175 in. lbs.) and install the rear wiper arm nut cap. Then, attach the battery's negative cable, close the hood and inspect if everything is operating correctly.
