2001 Chrysler Sebring Rod Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rod Bearing on 2001 Chrysler Sebring?
A: First, apply Plastigage to the connecting rod bearing to measure its clearance and refer to the Engine Specifications for the right clearance. The bolts used for the rod bearings should be replaced after removing them. When you are about to install new bolts, oil the threads with a clean engine oil. Finger tighten every bolt, then turn each one alternately to make sure the cap is assembled well. Bolts should be tightened to 27 Nm plus 1/4 turn and the last turn should be done with your hand instead of a torque wrench. The last step is to check the connecting rod side clearance using a feeler gauge to confirm it follows the set clearance.
