2001 Dodge Dakota Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Brake Pads on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step in servicing your brake pads is to tidy the master cylinder reservoir and filler caps, next, remove the filler cap and drain roughly 1/4 of the fluid using a clean suction gun. Lift and hold up the vehicle and then remove the front wheel and tire assemblies. Bring a best enlarged C-clamp into action for this step: place the clamp so its scaled part is on the rear exterior of the caliper and its screw onto the outboard side of the brake pad. Insert a screwdriver under the tension of the spring, then unclip everything on the side of the caliper. Free one side of the brake pad retainer spring from the caliper, tip the pad and spin it out. Once the inboard pad is tilted, slide it away until the tension of the retainer spring allows you to take it out and support the caliper using wire from a suspension component, so that the brake hose remains off the ground. When mounting, carefully brush away dirt from the adapter ledges and cover them with a bit of grease, replacing slide pin bushings as needed. Start by putting in the inboard pad and ensure the spring is well secured in the piston and then pop in the outboard pad with its spring secured in the caliper. Position the rotor, caliper and brake pads in the adapter, then tighten the caliper pins to 30 Nm by hand followed by an additional 22 ft. lbs. with your meter. Place the spring into one caliper hole then into the hole under the adapter, holding the opposite end down while you use a screwdriver to raise up the spring to set it properly into the second caliper hole. Now, place the wheel and tire set on the hub, lower the vehicle, push the brake pedal to help the pads sit in the system, top up the brake fluid and ensure the brakes work smoothly before driving the car.
