2001 Dodge Neon Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: When Should Brake Pads Be Inspected and Replaced on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Observe if the brake shoes are wearing unequally and if their tips are much closer to the brake rotor arms. When your visual assessment isn't enough, you should take the disc brake shoes out from the caliper and visually check them. Make certain to check that the thickness of the brake shoe and its lining material is taken from the indented area when measuring any brake shoe. Front disc brake shoes should be changed when the thickness reaches 7.95 mm (or 5/16 inch) and rear disc brake shoes should be replaced when they are approximately 7.0 mm (or 9/32 inch). Usually, replacing your front shoes means replacing all four tires, so take a look at the rears too. Replace both sets of brake shoes on each caliper, along with the shoes on the opposite side of the vehicle when that is part of the replacement. If you find that the brake shoe assemblies do not need to be replaced, put them back where they belonged before taking them out.
