How to Service the Speed Sensor on the 31TH Automatic Transmission on 2001 Dodge Neon?

Insert a lever into the hole of the vehicle speed sensor assembly and gently wiggle the lever to remove it. After that, take out the bolt holding the sensor in the extension housing and gently pull the sensor and pinion gear assembly out. Disconnect the pinion gear from the sensor, looking for any damage and place a replacement gear if necessary. Installing a new O-ring is necessary when putting back the vehicle speed sensor. Place the vehicle speed sensor and pinion gear into the extension housing, using the new O-ring, then fasten the nut to 7 Nm (60 inch lbs.). After that, attach the harness connector and lower the vehicle to the ground.
