2001 Dodge Neon Brake Drum Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Drum on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Begin by raising the car, removing the rear tire and wheel and exposing the brake drum for service and repair. After that, if the vehicle has retaining clips, remove them before taking off the brake drum. Should the drum still not come off, first increase the brake clearance by backing off the brake automatic adjuster screw; to do this, open the rubber plug on the brake support plate and turn the adjuster screw upward. Before attaching the drum to the brake assembly, go over the brake shoe linings, their alignment and if they are dirty or clean. Connect the brake drum on the back of the hub with the rear bearing, then insert and tighten the nuts on the wheel mounting to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Then, adjust the brake shoes on the back wheels and slowly lower the vehicle.
