2001 Dodge Neon Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Heater Core in a Right-Hand Drive on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Before replacing the heater core in a right-hand drive vehicle, turn off the negative battery cable and remove any trapped liquid from the cooling system. First, drain the refrigerant out of the system, then get rid of the instrument panel. You should also remove the retaining bolt from the expansion valve's refrigerant line and detach the lines and next, disconnect the electrical connect on the bottom of the valve. Remove the bolts from the expansion valve and remove the valve from your car. Inside the engine section, unhook both heater core supply hoses and then get rid of all fasteners holding the A/C-Heater assembly to the bulkhead. Take out the A/C-Heater housing tube by grabbing the hose out of the nipple and removing its holding clip. After going inside the car, pull out the heater duct from the A/C-Heater housing and its connection to the body, then remove the holding bolts and separate the electrical connectors. Take the A/C-Heater out of the vehicle and put it down, then take out the heater cover and remove the coolant lines. Separate the housing for the A/C-Heater by undoing the required screws and carefully pull out the heater core. To install, fit the heater core into the A/C-Heater housing and place everything back correctly in the housing. Secure the housing into the vehicle by fastening it with retaining bolts torqued to 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.) and then attach the electrical connectors. Join the defroster duct and mount the A/C-heater tube under the housing with a retaining clip. Secure the A/C-Heater housing with screws, ensuring each screw reaches 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.) of torque and afterwards, install the heater core coolant supply hoses. Assemble the expansion valve by bolting it in place with the gasket, fastening the bolts to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.) and attaching the electrical connector at the valve bottom. Also check that the o-rings and hoses are ready for use and undamaged. Put the refrigerant lines and retaining bolt into place and tighten the bolt to 23 Nm (203 in. lbs.), before finishing with the instrument panel. Next, remove all the gas from the air conditioning system, put refrigerant into it, fill the cooling system and attache the negative battery cable.
