2001 Dodge Neon A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve in a Refrigeration System on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Drain the refrigeration entire system before starting any work on the expansion valve. You should begin by dealing with the refrigerant and then unplug the wire link from the low pressure cut-off switch. Pull out the refrigerant line-sealing plate, avoiding the pilot tubes at the same time, after removing the bolts in the middle of the assembly. Make sure the holes on the A/C line-sealing plate are covered so they don't become contaminated and then remove the two screws holding the expansion valve to the evaporator sealing plate before taking out the valve. When installing, set the aluminum gasket on the evaporator sealing plate, press the expansion valve against the evaporator sealing plate so that it doesn't scratch and tighten the screws by about 11 ± 3 Nm (100 ± 30 in. lbs.). Replace the aluminum gasket on the refrigerant line-sealing plate assembly, hold the assembly to the expansion valve, insert the bolt and turn it until the tightness reaches 23 ± 3 Nm (200 ± 30 in. lbs.). Attach the wires to the low pressure cut-off switch again, empty the refrigerant and put in more refrigerant. With the expansion valve in place, charge the system, make sure there's no leaking and carry out an A/C performance test.
