2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Booster on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To work with and fix the vacuum brake booster, the master cylinder should be disconnected and the vacuum line around the booster check valve must be disconnected. After that, take out the retainer clip fixing the booster push rod to the pedal pin and gently slide the push rod off the pin. After that, take out the four nuts holding the booster to the dashboard panel. In the engine compartment, forward the booster, tilt it a little upwards and pull it out. Any rip, tear or looseness in the grommet should indicate you replace the check valve with a new one. Replace the booster dash seal, then line up and put the booster in place on the engine side of the dash panel. Inside the passenger compartment, apply Mopar multi-mileage grease to the pedal pin, put the booster attaching nuts on the studs and tighten them to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Place the booster push rod on top of the pedal pin and attach it with the retainer clip. At this step, place the vacuum hose on the booster check valve and snap the master cylinder in place with a new gasket and nuts, paying attention to the instructions so the booster and master cylinder remain safe. Afterwards, pump and let the brake fluid saturate the system.
