2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee ABS Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an ABS Control Module in the Hydraulic Control Unit on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step in servicing and repairing the HCU for antilock brakes is to remove the negative battery cable and the air cleaner housing. After that, pop open the CAB harness connector to take it out and remove the brake lines from the HCU. Disconnect the HCU/CAB side mounting bolt with the two rear mounting bolts and delicately remove the HCU/CAB unit from the vehicle. Place the HCU/CAB assembly into the mounting bracket and then tighten the mounting bolts to 12 Nm or 9 ft. lbs. Attach the brake lines to the HCU, making sure torque is at 16 Nm and use your hand to push down on the release to attach the CAB harness. Uninstall the air cleaner housing and then attach the negative battery cable to the battery. After that, bleed the base and ABS brake systems to finish the process.
