2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Front Wheel Speed Sensor on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: For service of the front wheel speed sensor, make sure the car is raised and supported. Unscrew the bolt holding the wheel sensor to the front wheel and remove the sensor from inside the steering knuckle. Cut the sensor wire loose from the bracket owner the steering knuckle and disconnect the sensor from the sensor harness. Before installation, put the sensor on the steering knuckle and put some Rubber Seal 5 on the shaft as well as Mopar Lock N' Seal or Loctite 242 on the sensor mounting bolt, making sure you use a fresh bolt if the first one is rusty. Screw in the sensor mounting bolt to a torque of 12 - 14 Nm (106 - 124 inch lbs.). Join each grommet on the sensor wire to a steering knuckle bracket and attach the sensor wire to the harness connector. Make certain that the sensor wire has a free path through the chassis and is straight and not bent anywhere. Next, drop the vehicle to the ground and remove the support stands.
