2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Parking Brake Cable on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: You should remove the center console first, then lift the rear seat and the carpet over the cables for front parking brake servicing or repair. An assistant should use a small screwdriver to push down the lock out spring on the other end, while you use a screwdriver to release pressure on the front cable in the eyelet, making sure the cable is loose. Pull the front cable end from the equalizer and parking brake lever and after that, remove the front carpet. Move on by loosening the nuts on the front cable retainer from the floor, then compress the cable retainers with a 13 mm wrench to take the cable off of both the parking brake lever bracket and equalizer bracket. Begin with the cable: put it into both brackets, fasten it to the floor pan with retainer nuts and then join the cable ends at the front with the lever and equalizer. Slide the front carpet into place, lift the lever to release the lock out spring, then put the center console back and push down the rear seat and cover.
