2002 Chrysler 300M Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2002 Chrysler 300M?
A: Before working on the crankshaft main bearing seal, first pull the transaxle out of the car and then remove the drive plate. With a 3/16" wide flat bladed screwdriver, press between the seal's lip and the metal edge to remove the crankshaft oil seal, making sure the blade doesn't come near the seal surface. Just before attachment, watch for any burrs or scratches on the crankshaft edge and if they are there, sand the area with 400 grit sandpaper to preserve the seal. Now, put Special Tool 6926-1 Guide onto the crankshaft so that it sits in place with its magnetic base. Set the seal across the pilot tool with the outer lip facing the pilot hole. You should keep the pilot tool on the crankshaft as you put in the seals. Finally, fit Special Tool 6926-2 Installer to the bottom of the transaxle and attach C-4171 Handle to hold it. Drive the seal into the retainer housing so it becomes flush with the housing surface and install the drive plate and transaxle once more.
