2003 Dodge Dakota Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace an Ignition Coil on the Engine Cylinder Head on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: The ignition coil which is epoxy filled, is connected to a bracket that fastens to the front of the right engine cylinder head. This bracket is then secured to the automatic belt tensioner bracket using ordinary bolts. Before removing the ignition coil, unhook the primary wiring and the secondary spark plug cable. Be sure not to take out the bracket-to-cylinder head mounting bolts, because the belt is under tension on the bracket; if you must remove them, you need to release all the belt tension prior to removing the bolts. When that's done, loosen and remove the two bolts that are holding the ignition coil on the coil mounting bracket. When installing, fix the ignition coil to the coil mounting bracket and if using nuts or bolts, tighten them to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.,) or if the bracket is tapped for coil bolts, tighten them to 5 Nm (50 in. lbs.). After that, attach all wires back to the ignition coil.
