2004 Chrysler Crossfire Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Faulty Clock Spring on 2004 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: The Clock Spring has to be changed if it fails or is damaged or if the air bag was used, because repair isn't possible. Initially, unplug the negative cable from the battery, then give the system two minutes to discharge. Turn the steering wheel in a circle until the car is pointing straight ahead. Initially, put the front wheels forward, unscrew the air bag screws from the steering wheel and take out the air bag from the driver side. After that, take out the countersunk screw holding the steering wheel to the column, next the two screws that secure the Clock Spring case to the switch housing and finish by removing the Clock Spring. If you decide to reuse the Clock Spring, use the rotor to center it in the case and keep this position until you reinstall it; if you don't maintain the centering, it must be centered again. If keeping the old Clock Spring, separate any elements holding the rotor, set the Clock Spring onto the column and secure it with the Clock Spring case screws. Secure the steering wheel to the column, fasten the countersunk screw and then fit and secure the driver air bag with its screws. Make sure to wait and remove the battery's negative cable until you have performed the verification test on the supplemental restraint system after your repairs.
