2005 Chrysler Crossfire Clock Spring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: Is Your Clock Spring Faulty, Damaged, or Triggered by Airbag Deployment on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: If the Clock Spring is bad or damaged or the driver air bag has been inflated, it needs replacing, since it can't be fixed. The first step is to remove the negative battery cable and wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge. Rotate to turn the steering wheel till the front wheels are sitting straight ahead. Take out the negative battery cable, get rid of the air bag on the driver's side and don't lay an intact air bag upside down on a hard surface. Completely remove the steering wheel by first using a proper tool to free the steering wheel tapered bolt and then take out the steering wheel. After that, remove the two small screws connecting the Clock Spring to the top part of the steering column and separate the Clock Spring from the steering angle sensor. To reuse the Clock Spring, hold the Clock Spring rotor in place while keeping the center centered. As you mount the sensor, position it over the alignment points on the Clock Spring's housings and secure it with the connections. Remove any securing tabs you find if the Clock Spring was reused. Secure the Clock Spring in the steering column with two screws and tighten them to 1 N.m (9 in. lbs.). Replace the steering wheel with the tapered bolt and add the driver air bag and screws to it. You should not attach the negative battery cable again until the Supplemental Restraint System verification test is complete after you have serviced any part of the system.
