2004 Dodge Dakota Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Catalytic Converter on a 3.7L Engine on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before doing service or repairs on a catalytic converter in a 3.7L engine, lift and support the vehicle. Slather the fasteners with Mopar Rust Penetrant and let them sit for 5 minutes. Take off the clamp holding the flange of the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe and remove the clamp also holding the same flange to the muffler or extension pipe. After that, take out the engine rear mount and the crossmember, followed by the catalytic converter after you may need to loosen other parts of the exhaust system. Attach and align the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe and then fix it into the muffler or extension pipe during the installation. Should other parts of the exhaust system move, use the correct steps to restore their tightness after removal. Using the nuts and clamp on the catalytic converter flange, tighten them to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), following all manufacturer directions. Reconnect the crossmember and the rear engine mount and then lower the car. Run the engine to find possible exhaust leaks, do repairs and look for where the exhaust is touching the body panels, correcting them as needed.
