2004 Dodge Dakota Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an Exhaust Manifold on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: For removing the right exhaust manifold, disconnect the cable from the battery's negative terminal, use supports to hold up the car and loosen all the bolts and nuts that link the exhaust pipe to the engine manifold. Lower the suspension and afterwards, remove the exhaust heat shield. After that, remove the bolts, nuts and washers connecting the manifold to the cylinder head and then remove the manifold and the gasket from the cylinder head. First, unhook the negative cable from the battery, elevate and hold up the vehicle and use a wrench to remove the bolt-nuts fastening the exhaust pipe to the left exhaust manifold. Suspend the vehicle, remove the heat shields from the exhaust, extract all the bolts, nuts and washers holding the manifold to the cylinder head and detach the manifold and gasket from the cylinder head. If the nuts came away with the studs during exhaust manifold removal, put in new studs and add sealer on the coarse threads so the broken studs do not let water into the engine. Set the exhaust manifold and gasket on the studs of the cylinder head, add conical washers and nuts to those studs and then install the additional conical washers. Work from the innermost bolt outwards, tightening everything to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) / 24 in lb. torque and then put on the exhaust heat shields. Support the vehicle carefully, being careful not to tighten the heat shield fasteners really hard so you do not damage them. Bolt the exhaust pipe to the manifold and use nuts and retainers, tightening all assemblies to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). Have the same steps for installing the left exhaust manifold, also applying sealer to the coarse thread ends if the studs came out when you were unscrewing the nuts.
