2004 Dodge Dakota Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: To work on the steering knuckle, lift and support the car, then take off the wheel and tire assembly. After that, remove the disc brake caliper, rotor, shield and the ABS speed sensor. Get rid of the tie-rod from the steering knuckle arm after that and remove the upper link called the stabilizer, in addition to the hub/bearing. Wait for the lower suspension arm to be supported by a jack stand, then remove the nut from the lower ball joint and separate the ball joint from the knuckle with the Remover C-4150A utensil. Take off the upper ball joint nut and split up the ball joint and knuckle with Remover MB-991113, ensuring that the ball joint seal is not damaged. Remove the steering knuckle and put on the new knuckle above the ball joints, then tighten the lower nut to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.), tighten the upper nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.) and seal the pins with cotter pins. Put the hub/bearing back on, take off the tug pin from the lower suspension arm and attach the ABS speed sensor, brake dust shield, rotor and caliper. Afterward, add the stabilizer link, fix the tie rod to the steering knuckle arm, replace the wheel and tire assembly, leave off the support and lift the vehicle again.
