2004 Dodge Durango Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: First, disconnect the negative cable from the battery, put the radiator fan aside and unmount the accessory drive belt. After that, lift the crankshaft damper after removing the bolt using Special Tools 8513 Insert and 1026 Three Jaw Puller. To avoid causing major harm, the damper bore and crankshaft nose must be cleaned before you install the damper. Line the crankshaft damper slot up with the key in the crankshaft and set the damper onto the crankshaft with a bit of pressure. Thread Special Tool 8512-A by first attaching the nut onto the threaded rod, adding the roller bearing so the hardened side of the bearing faces the nut and attaching the hardened washer. Apply Mopar Nickel Anti-Seize or its alternative to the rod's threads. After mounting Special Tool 8512-A, press the damper on the crankshaft and tighten the bolt to 175 Nm (130 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the radiator fan, accessory drive belt and attach the negative cable to the battery.
