2005 Dodge Durango Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: Before doing any work on the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, disconnect the negative cable on the battery, remove the radiator fan and take the accessory drive belt off. After that, remove the crankshaft damper bolt and get the damper out with Tools Special 8513 Insert and 1026 Three Jaw Puller. Before the damper is installed, clean both the damper bore and the crankshaft nose well to avoid major damage. Put the damper's slot on the crankshaft damper over the key in the crankshaft and slide it down the crankshaft slightly. First, thread the nut onto the rod, insert the roller bearing with its hardened surface up against the nut and position the hardened washer on the rod to assemble Special Tool 8512-A. Apply Mopar(R) Nickel Anti-Seize or an equal product, to the threads of the threaded rod. Insert Special Tool 8512-A around the crankshaft and press the damper onto the shaft, then tighten the crankshaft damper bolt to 175 Nm (130 ft. lbs.) while installed. In the end, mount the fan for the radiator, bolt on the accessory drive belt and connect the negative cable to the battery again.
