2004 Dodge Neon Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What Needs Inspection and Replacement After an Air Bag Deployment on 2004 Dodge Neon?
A: After the Driver air bag deploys in a crash, the Driver air bag, Clock Spring Assembly, Steering Wheel and Complete Steering Column Assembly with Lower Steering Column Coupler must be changed. If any sign of damage appears on other vehicle systems or air bags, they should be immediately inspected and utilized parts should be changed. If a Passenger air bag is deployed, it must be changed and all other air bag and vehicle parts should be replaced if found to be damaged. When a Seat air bag is installed, the whole seat back should be changed and similar actions are required for other parts. You should replace both the Front Driver Seat Belt Retractor and the Front Passenger Seat Belt Retractor (If someone was sitting there) following a frontal impact. After turning off the car, roll or fold the air bag so it falls towards its mounting area, then secure the torn air cover tightly over the air bag with tape. After you brush away the powder, vacuum the vehicle cabin, starting from its outside and vacuuming both the heater and A/c outlets too. When the heater or air conditioner was in Recirc mode during air bag deployment, use the blower motor on low setting to suck up the powder debris and vacate that powder from all the vehicle's heater and A/c outlets. Continue to clean and vacuum again and again until you are sure the inside is clean.
