2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Door Hinge Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Door Hinge on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: You should open the front and back doors to service and repair the rear door hinge. Draw around the areas where the hinges will go using a grease pencil or an alternative. Lift the rear door using a suitable device to help you. Should both hinges be replaced at the same time, disconnect the rear door plug and unbolt the door hinges from the b-pillar. After that, take out the lower b-pillar trim, making sure the washers with epoxy are still attached to the hinges, so you won't need to adjust them again. Take away the nuts from the hinge and remove the door. Following that, take out the two bolts that are attached to the outside and one bolt on the inside, holding the hinge onto the b-pillar. When installing, press 3M(R) Fast and Firm or an alternate sealant onto the places where the body and hinge meet. Slide the hinge onto the b-pillar so that the reference marks are lined up and use bolts to fix it so that it is tightened to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.). Put the door back on the hinge, making sure the marks are in line and then add the nuts and epoxy washers, fastening the assembly to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.). Test the door to ensure it fits well and opens easily, making any necessary changes and then attach the lower b-pillar trim.
