2005 Chrysler Crossfire Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Air Bag Sensor on the Left Side on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: The first step to service the left side's impact sensor is to lift the door sill plate up straight to get it off the clips. Locate the seat all the way back and then unbolt the front seat track. With the seat pushed toward the front, you can access the rear track bolts since they're easier to reach with the seat completely upright. After that, take out the seat belt bolt that connects the seat belt to the seat and disconnect the negative battery cable. Do not touch the cables for two minutes to give the capacitor time to discharge. To access the bottom, tilt back the seat. Then separate the power seat harness connectors and lift up the seat from the car. From inside the car's rear, at the passenger seat, disconnect the button that holds the carpets in place, taking care not to pry as you do this. Roll back the carpet halfway around the doorway to expose the side impact sensor. Hold it up so you can reach it. Disconnect the side impact sensor harness connector, but avoid ruining the squib connector. Open the sensor's housing by removing the two bolts secured in the aluminum body cross brace, then take out the sensor. First, take off the negative battery cable and then allow the system capacitor to discharge for two minutes. Fix the new side impact sensor to the body cross brace and seal with the bolts, tightening them up to 12 N.m (106 in. lbs.). Once the side impact sensor harness connector is connected, take your time to properly seat the carpet at the floor. Attach the carpet hold down button, then fit the front seat and then plug back in the power seat connector harnesses. Push in the seat belt bolt, tightening it to 35 N.m (26 ft. lbs.) and then install the rear seat track bolts by tightening them to 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.). First, hook up the negative battery cable, move the seat to the back as far as possible, then remove the cable once more. Insert the front seat track bolts and crank them to 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.), after which you should insert the door sill plate and push it down on the retaining clips firmly. Right now, do not attach the negative battery cable; wait for the Supplemental Restraint System verification test after finishing any work on the Supplemental Restraint System.
