2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What Air Bag Components Must Be Replaced and Inspected After a Collision on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: If the Driver air bag is used after a collision, the Driver air bag, Clock Spring Assembly, Steering Wheel and Complete Steering Column Assembly with Lower Steering Column Coupler must all be changed. In addition, examine the rest of the air bag and vehicle equipment for damage and change them when that is appropriate. Following the activation of a Passenger air bag, both it and the Passenger air bag Cover should be replaced. Similar updates are needed for the rest of the air bag equipment. After a Seat air bag is deployed, replacement of the Complete Seat Back Assembly is required and other systems should be checked for damage. Following a frontal collision where an air bag has gone off, Front Seat Belt Retractors (driver and passenger, both with integral Tensioners) must be replaced and all other seat belts should be examined for cuts, tears, fraying or any sign of damage and be changed if they have to be. Also, look at the Lower Anchors and Tether for Children (LATCH) child restraint anchors after an accident to determine if they are damaged and replace them if so. Connections to the battery negative cable should be made after the system check to avoid any chance of personal injury or death.
