2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Light Switch on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first thing to do for servicing and fixing the brake light switch is to unclip the air cleaner cover and put it away. Take off the negative cable from its post, then remove the silencer pad just below the knee blocker. Fold and take out the knee blocker below the steering column. Turn the brake lamp switch clockwise about 30 degrees, then pull it out, detach the harness and replace the old switch. Bring in a new brake lamp switch, then set the rotation angle to 45 degrees from the wiring connector. If it is parallel, that switch cannot be used and you need a new one. After connecting the wires, fit the switch into its bracket by setting its index tab in the single notch and turning it clockwise nearly 30 degrees to secure it. Releasing the brake pedal, rotate the adjustment lever until it is along the wiring connector hole to fix the switch as required. Put the knee blocker and silencer back in place, attach the battery's negative terminal and set the air cleaner cover back onto the air cleaner. In the end, be sure that the stop lamps function correctly and go off when you take your foot off the brake and run a road test to ensure the brakes and speed control are operating correctly if they are part of the truck.
