2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Brake Light Switch on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing the brake lamp switch, remove the air cleaner cover and leave it in a safe place, then disconnect and put aside the battery negative cable. Pull away the pad below the knee blocker and adjust the knee blocker so it is just under the steering column. You can take out the brake lamp switch from its bracket by turning it counterclockwise, moving it backward and then detaching the wiring connector. Remove the old switch from the brake lamp and do not try to use it again. If you start with a set brake lamp switch, its adjustment lever should be at 45° to the wiring connector, not parallel; if it is parallel, you must replace it. Join the wired harness to the new switch, fit the switch into its bracket by placing the index tab in the notch and turning it clockwise about 30° to attach it firmly. While the brake pedal is released, set the adjustment lever on the switch to line up parallel with the wiring connector. Place the blocker and silencer pad, attach the battery back to the negative connector and fit the air cleaner cover again. Lastly, examine the stop lamps and take the machine out on the road for a test to check the brakes and speed controls operate normally.
