Q: How to Remove and Install a Door Lock Cylinder on a Coupe or Convertible on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before anything else, you need to take out the door trim panel and water dam on the coupe, then raise the glass in the door. Separate the rod holding the door latch from the rod in the door lock; also, remove the wiring from the lock cylinder if your model has this feature. After that, unfasten the parts connecting the lock cylinder retainer to the door, take it out and only after that, remove the lock cylinder from the door handle. Work with a convertible the same way: take the door trim and water dam out, lift the door glass, unhook the rod from the latch, unplug any wires that are present, get rid of the lock cylinder retainer screws, remove the retainer and pop the lock cylinder off the door. When installing in a coupe, put the cylinder and gasket onto the outer door, mount the retainers around the cylinder, join the rod from the latch to the cylinder, connect any wiring if included and mount the trim and water dam to finish. With a convertible, insert the lock cylinder (5) and the gasket into the door's outer panel, fit the cylinder retainer to the door, join the door lock rod to the latch, attach the wiring connectors if available and place the door trim panel and water dam.
