2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Engine Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: What Steps Should Be Taken Before Replacing the Engine Control Module for a Failed Driver, Control Circuit, or Ground Circuit on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Faulty driver, control or ground circuits can sometimes be hard to detect due to a double fault, so first examine the connected components and circuits. A majority of errors in Pcm drivers and control circuits happen because of problems with internal components, especially 12-volt pull-ups, drivers and ground sensors. These problems can be hard to discover if only a single Dtc is set when there is a double fault. When you change both the Pcm and Skim, first put in the vehicle's Vin to the Pcm and then replace and program all keys to work with the new Skim. The Pcm needs to have the Skis Secret Key, a special I.d. code known only by the Skim, Ecu and chip transponder, programmed into it when you change it out. Replacing the Pcm requires first using Drbiii(R) to access Miscellaneous and Theft Alarm. Then, turn on the ignition, put the transmission in park or neutral and use Drbiii(R) to reach Skim and click on Pcm Replaced. Input the vehicle's four-digit Pin to enter secured mode; after three unsuccessful tries, the secured mode locks out for an hour and won't allow entry until the ignition is kept in the run position. Turn off all accessories and watch the battery level, replacing the battery with a charger if you need to. Once done, the secret key is transferred via pressing Enter on the Skim.
