2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Throttle Position Sensor on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Take away the air cleaner lid and makeup air hose, undo the clamp and put the assembly in another location. The negative battery cable and electrical connector need to be removed from the throttle position sensor. Unscrew the mounting screws and take away the throttle position sensor. Always make sure that the end of the throttle shaft that says throttle slides into the slot of the TPS, where it rests on the two internally lifted tabs. With the TPS indexed correctly, slight pressure will register when you rotate it clockwise to line up the mounting screw holes with the throttle body's. If the sensor is sticking and won't rotate, try attaching the throttle shaft to its opposing tab and reinstalling the sensor. Turn the mounting screws with 6.2 Nm (55 in. lbs.) of torque. After you've affixed everything, make certain the throttle plate is closed before you drive; if it remains open, move the sensor to the other set of tabs to close the plate. Reconnect all the electrical cables from the throttle position sensor, replace the negative battery cable and mount the lid and hose for the air cleaner.
