2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Throttle Position Sensor on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: When serving or repairing the throttle position sensor, first bring the air cleaner lid and makeup air hose out, then ease the clamp and move the assembly. Take out both negative battery and electrical connectors from the throttle position sensor. With the mounting screws out, remove the throttle position sensor. To install properly, slide the part of the throttle body that connects to the engine onto the sensor's socket, so that the rubber O-ring seals the rotor housing. There are two tabs in the socket that the throttle shaft sits on. When the throttle is in the correct index position, the TPS can rotate slightly clockwise to line up the mounting screw holes. If it's tough to install the sensor in that position, place the throttle shaft on the throttle tabs' opposite end and try again. Screw the mounting screws until you reach 6.2 N.m or 55 in. lbs. Following the installation, look to see if the throttle plate is closed; if it is opened, change the position of the sensor to the other side of the tabs. Connect the electrical wires from the throttle position sensor to the harness, connect the negative battery cable, put the air cleaner lid in place and finally, clamp the makeup air hose in place.
