2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Vapor Canister Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Vapor Canister on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing or repairing the Evaporative Emission Control Canister, let's use the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure to relieve fuel pressure. After setting your car on blocks, remove the air cleaner cover, unhook the inlet air temperature sensor wire and disconnect the battery's negative post. Raise the vehicle, as directed and drain the fuel tank as described in the Draining Fuel Tank procedure. After that, follow the instructions provided for Fuel Tank removal/installation to take out the fuel tank and the EVAP system. Tear out the push pin and hoses from the EVAP canister, scatter the spring clips around the side and then tilt the canister till it comes loose from the tabs holding it in place. Put the EVAP canister over the bracket tabs, press it back into place, then push the spring clips down onto the edge. Once that is done, set the push pin inside the canister and bracket in the fuel tank. Put the hoses and lines back into place, then install the fuel tank and EVAP system following the instructions from the manual. Lift the vehicle back up, hook the negative battery cable and put the air cleaner lid on as you link the inlet air temperature sensor and the makeup air hose. In the end, add fuel, use the scan tool to air up the system and make sure there are no leaks.
