2005 Dodge Caravan Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Heater Core on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: Before changing the front heater core, first remove and isolate the battery's negative cable to stop the air bag system and wait two minutes so the air bag system capacitor can discharge. Separate the silencer boot fasteners along the bottom of the lower steering shaft from the dash panel and use this space to move the boot up and out of the way. After that, remove the brake lamp switch and take the power brake booster input rod off where it connects to the brake pedal arm. If the car has power pedals that can be adjusted, take out the whole adjustable pedal assembly. Keep absorbent materials under the heater core and right by the engine to clean up coolant leaks. After that, remove both tubes from the heater core and the two screws that are holding the heater core plate to the air distribution housing. For vehicles without power adjustable pedals, move the accelerator pedal upwards and the brake pedal downwards to give you space to remove the heater core. Slowly take the heater core from the side of the air distribution housing. If the car did not come with power adjustable pedals, first lift the accelerator up and push the brake down, then slip the heater core into the side of the HVAC air distribution housing and fasten it with screws that are tightened to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Replace the heater core tubes and, if your vehicle has power adjustable pedals, fit the adjustable pedal assembly. Attach the input rod from the power brake booster to the pin on the brake pedal arm, insert the brake lamp switch into its bracket and slide the silencer boot over the base of the lower steering shaft on the dash panel. Negative battery cable goes in next, if the heater core is being replaced, flush the cooling system and fill the cooling system with fresh engine coolant.
