2006 Dodge Caravan Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Heater Core on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: Before you service the front heater core, make sure to disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable to cut power to the air bag system. Leave it disconnected for two minutes so the system's capacitor can drain. Pull up the heat control and climate system switch assembly, then empty the brake lamp switch from its bracket and disconnect the power brake booster input rod from the pin on the brake pedal arm. Finally, leave the silencer boot fasteners by the lower steering shaft to open the way, since this area of the dash panel can get dirty with coolant. Then, take out the heater core tubes and undo the two screws that keep the heater core mounting plate to the HVAC air distribution housing. While pressing the accelerator up and braking at the same time to clear the engine, lift the heater core out of the air duct housing. To attach the heater core, step on the brake, push up on the accelerator and lower the heater core into the HVAC housing, holding it in place with the two 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.) screws. Secure the newly cleaned heater core tubes, attach the end of the power brake booster input rod to the brake pedal arm pin and bolt the brake lamp switch into position. Next, fit the silencer boot around the lower steering shaft base, reattach the negative battery cable, flush the cooling system if necessary when the heater core is being replaced and fill the engine cooling system again.
