2005 Dodge Dakota Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: You need to release the fuel system pressure before working on the fuel rail, since it is held at a high level even when the engine isn't running. Both left and right fuel rails must replace as a group and their tubes should not be damaged or bent during removal. First unscrew the fuel tank filler tube cap and then conduct the fuel system pressure release. Take off the negative battery cable, remove the air duct and air box at the throttle body and unfasten the air resonator mounting bracket using two bolts. Remove the clip and fuel line attached to the fuel rail by using a proper tool for disconnection. Detach vacuum lines and pull off the electrical connectors from all six fuel injectors by pushing the red slider and depressing the tab. Switch off the electrical connectors to all throttle body sensors first and then pull out the six ignition coils. After that, unbolt the mounting bolts from the common rail and slowly pull each side until the injectors fit through the cylinder head holes. If you add fuel injectors, wash the channels in the intake manifold carefully and oil each injector O-ring only a bit. Place the fuel rail/injector assembly onto the openings in the cylinder head, ensuring each injector goes gently to prevent tearing the O-rings. Apply pressure downward on the fuel rail across its length until it clicks to place the injectors in position, then tighten the mounting bolts as the instructions tell you to. Replace the ignition coils and quickly join the electrical wires to both the throttle body and the fuel injectors. Next, reattach all vacuum hoses, put in the air resonator bracket, clip the fuel line to the end of the fuel rail and then fit the air box and air duct back in place. At the end, reattach the battery cable, start the engine and look for leaks.
