2006 Dodge Dakota Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: Ensure you let out the pressure in the fuel system before you start to service the fuel rail, as it is always pressurized. The left and right rails must be replaced together, because the connection between them does not use clamps. During fuel rail assembly removal, be sure not to bend or damage the tubes. At the beginning, take out the fuel tank filler tube cap and next, execute the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure. Disconnect the line leading from your negative battery cable, remove the duct and air box around the throttle body and use two bolts to take out the air resonator mounting bracket. Take the fuel line out from the fuel rail, as it might require a tool to do so. Take off any vacuum lines at the throttle body and unplug the electrical connectors on all six fuel injectors, being sure to slide the red bar back and press the tab to remove the connector. Each end of the factory fuel injection wiring harness has a code for identifying the injector position. To start, remove all connections from the throttle body sensors, take out the six ignition coils and then loosen the four bolts holding the fuel rail. Use gentle rocking and pulling on the left rail's side until the fuel injectors start clearing the machined holes and then do the same for the right side. Attach the injectors to the fuel rail and pull the rail from the fuel injector housing. When you replace your fuel injectors, be sure to clean the bore with each intake manifold and lightly oil the O-ring to help them go on smoothly. Place the fuel rail/ injector assembly over the openings in the cylinder head and guide each injector gently to ensure the O-rings are not torn. Push over the fuel rail's right side so the injectors go all the way into the cylinder head shoulder and repeat the same motion on the left side. Attach the fuel rail to the engine securely with the metal bolts and tighten them to the proper torque, set back the six ignition coils and attach all the electrical connectors to the throttle body and each fuel injector, keeping them locked in place. Put the vacuum lines back on, put in the air resonator mounting bracket, fasten the clip that holds the fuel line to the fuel rail and fit the air box and air duct together again. In the end, join the battery cable together, fire up the engine and make sure no leaks are present.
